Wired KNX
KNX home automation for new builds and major renovations
KNX is an open, wired standard for controlling lighting, climate, curtains and more from one coordinated system. Devices communicate over a dedicated bus cable as a distributed system; switching and dimming actuators are often grouped in your distribution board, but no single central controller is required. It is best planned before walls are closed, alongside your electrical design.
What you get
- One coordinated system for lighting, AC zones and curtains, with consistent keypads in every room.
- Core control runs on the wired bus inside your home, not on your internet connection.
- Room-by-room scenes, timed routines and whole-home “Away” modes.
- An open standard that other qualified KNX integrators can also work on in future.
Is it right for your home?
Good fit
- New villas and townhouses at design or construction stage
- Major renovations where walls and ceilings are opened
- Owners wanting long-term, centralised whole-home control
Worth considering
- Finished homes need a wiring assessment; adding bus cable may mean chasing walls
- Larger upfront investment than wireless
- Needs coordination with your electrical contractor and DB layout
How installation works
- 01
Plan
Use the instant estimate, then email us your plan. We reply with questions and arrange a site visit.
- 02
Survey
We check wiring, devices and compatibility on site. For KNX we review drawings, DB space and cable routes with your contractor.
- 03
Design & quote
You receive a written proposal with confirmed devices, prices and what is excluded.
- 04
Install & configure
We install, set up scenes and schedules, and test every circuit, zone or track.
- 05
Handover
We walk you through the app and wall controls and leave a simple summary of your setup.
Included
- KNX system design and device schedule
- Supply of KNX actuators, keypads, power supply and interface
- Panel assembly and installation of KNX components
- Programming in ETS, scenes and schedules
- Commissioning, testing and customer handover
Not included
- New cabling, chasing and civil works (pending survey)
- Distribution board modifications (pending survey)
- Light fittings, drivers and AC equipment
- Building or community approvals
Compatibility
- In a finished home, KNX needs a wiring assessment before we can confirm it is practical.
- AC integration depends on your AC system and available interfaces; we verify on survey.
- Accessories like smart locks or doorbells can run as separate compatible systems; integration with KNX is assessed separately.
Questions
Can I install KNX in my finished apartment?
Sometimes, but it usually requires new bus cabling to switch points and the panel. We assess the wiring first. If works would be too invasive, a wireless system is often the better fit.
Does KNX need internet?
Core control over the KNX bus works locally. Remote access from your phone outside the home needs internet and a suitable gateway.
Why does the estimate include a base cost?
Every KNX project needs a power supply, interface, panel components, design and programming. We add that budget once, not per device.
Is KNX better than Wi-Fi?
Neither is better for everyone. KNX suits new builds and major renovations; wireless suits finished homes. They do not offer identical features.
