Wi-Fi or KNX: which fits your home?

Start with the building work. A finished home usually calls for a different approach from a villa with open walls and a planned electrical system.

The practical comparison

Finished homeOften fits existing switch positions, subject to wiring checks.Requires a wiring assessment; more practical during major works.
New build or full renovationCan be added in phases.Plan cabling, distribution boards and interfaces before walls close.
Lights, AC and curtainsCompatibility depends on the selected devices and controllers.Interfaces and control points are designed as one coordinated system.
Internet outageSome devices retain local control; remote and cloud functions may stop.Core bus functions can operate locally; remote and voice services may still need internet.
Future changesCheck device ecosystem, hub capacity and replacement availability.Keep the programming project and device schedule for future maintenance.

Wireless does not always mean every device uses Wi-Fi

A wireless system may use a hub with another radio protocol, such as Zigbee, alongside your Wi-Fi network. We confirm the actual devices, hub requirements and local versus cloud functions in the quotation. KNX also has wireless options; our full installation service here focuses on wired KNX.

Three things to ask before choosing

  1. What still works if the internet or a cloud service is unavailable?
  2. Who receives the app accounts, administrator access and programming files at handover?
  3. Does the quotation include wiring changes, wall repairs and every required interface?

Start with your home

Count the lights, AC controllers and curtains you want to automate. Then share your plan for a site assessment and a written quotation.
